Carrie Bell Montgomery Brown, was born August 5, 1951, in Williamsburg County, to the late Ed and Drucilla Montgomery.

Carrie attended Florence County Public School System and graduated from Carver High School, Lake City SC. Later in her life, Carrie chose multiple careers working at Prosser’s Restaurant on Saul St, in Lake City, SC, Vanessa’s Daycare and also Skipper’s Daycare. It was at Vanessa’s and Skipper’s Daycare, which she would earn the name “Grandma.”

Carrie attended St. John United Methodist Church on the Green Rd, where she participated in singing on the choir, and the usher board. She later joined Greater St. James AME Church, and became a faithful member, also joining the usher board, and occasionally helping within the church kitchen. Carrie was known for her cooking; those famous deviled eggs, and fried chicken, just to name a few. She loved to be the life of the party just as her sisters did, where she would dance till she got dizzy. Her many style choices, her striking pose, and love for a good purse/pocket book will be missed.

Along this earthly journey, Carrie met and married her loving husband of 25 years, the late Mr. Josh Oliver Brown.

On Saturday, July 18, 2026, God called Carrie, and when she saw the glory of the Lord, she made heaven her new home.

Carrie is preceded in death by her parents Ed and Drucilla Montgomery; husband Joe Brown and two children, Charles and Michelle Burroughs; and siblings Rooesvelt, Elroy, Paul and Silas Montgomery

Carrie was a very loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She truly did treasured her family above all else. She would sing praises of her grandson’s that she was very proud of, and did not mind sharing. Carrie’s smile, laughter, strength, love, and faith is now in the hands of her children and grandchildren, which will continue for generations. May we all continue to make a stranger a friend, find light in the darkness, have faith the size of a mustard seed, and most importantly Love like Carrie did. For God is Love.

Carrie lived a beautiful life, that will be forever cherished by: her beautiful daughter, Angela ‘Angie,’ of the home; her four grandsons that she is ever so proud of, Deon Burroughs, of Gaffney, SC, Marvin Burroughs and Kelton Scott, both of Kingstree, SC, and Christopher Burgess, of Summerville, SC; also additional grandchildren, Titeanna Generette of Kingstree, SC Jheir and Jasmine Dingle of Goose Creek, SC, Allen (Shiandra) Pressley, Aaron Pressley, Alyssia Pressley, all of Florence, SC; her precious great-grandchildren, Kaliah and Brion Burroughs, Baylee Cokley, Taye (Jonazia) Pressley, Tyler Pressley, Kyleigh Pressley, Damauri and Keimar Davis; one great-great grandchild, Londyn Pressley; two very loving sisters, Rosa Davis of Scranton, SC, and Annie Bell Graham of Lake City, SC; four caring sister-in-laws: Kat Frances Montgomery of Winston-Salme, NC, Rossie Montgomery of Lake City, SC, Sarah

Fullard and Lottie (Stanley) Cooper both of Scranton, SC; Betty Eaddy and Bernice (Jerry) McFadden both of Lake City, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
