Fernander Leon Barr affectionally known as “Tic”. A native of Florence County, born to the late Willie and Marjorie Cooper Barr, on October 8, 1965. He departed this life on June 19, 2025, at MUSC Black River Medical Center, Cades SC.
Fernander received his formal education in the public schools of Florence County. He was a graduate of Lake City High School, of Lake City, SC. Graduating Class of 1983. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After his time served, he was employed at Colonial Rubber of Kingstree, SC. Later he opened his own fish market in Lake City, SC. Followed by joining partnership with Graham & Godwin Funeral Home of Lake City, SC, where he later became co-owner partners with his daughter Makayla C. Barr.
Fernander was a lifelong member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church Lake City, SC. Served in positions of Trustee and Deacon. He was also a active member of Everready Lodge #431, Willing Workers Chapter #319 O.E.S., Lake City Elks Lodge#1680 and Harriet Tubman Temple #1320.
Fernander received his nickname “Tic” as a child from his bicycle that made a “Tic, Tic, Tic” noise as he rode his bicycle through the neighborhood. Fernander never met a stranger, was always comical, and was always willing to help others in need. He was also known for his cigars, which he would hold in his mouth but never light.
Fernander leaves to cherish his memories his wife: Barbara A. Barr; his two daughters: Makayla C. Barr and Katelyn C. Barr; his four sisters: Barbara Henry, Kasandra (Tim) Graham, Margaret Brown, all of Lake City, SC, and Ablean Hanna of Columbia, SC; nephews: Neal (Shona) Henry, Shawn Graham, Brent Brown, Randall Hanna and Tyler Hanna; aunts: Thara “Pecola” Hickson of Lake City, SC, Christine Oliver of Florence, SC; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, friends, and family.
Fernander leaves a Legacy that will forever dwell in the hearts of the staff of Graham and Godwin Funeral Home.
