Sergeant Jammie Bernard Epps, lovingly known as “Butch”, was an esteemed former Marine who dedicated his life in service to his country and community. Sergeant Epps departed from us on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering courage, integrity, and selfless devotion. He was born to Eugene Frieson and Millie Ann Epps May on November 12, 1970, in Bridgeport, CT. He was later educated in Florence County, South Carolina School District prior to joining the US Marine Corps.
Sergeant Epps enlisted in the United States Marine Corps following high school. Throughout his distinguished career, he exemplified the core values of the Marines: honor, courage, and commitment. His exceptional leadership skills and steadfast resolve earned him the respect and admiration of all who served alongside him. He earned numerous decorations, medals, badges, citations, and ribbons throughout his years of service.
After ten years of dedicated service, Sergeant Epps was honorably discharged from the Marines, but his commitment to service did not end there. He continued to support veterans and their families, embodying the Marine Corps motto, "Semper Fidelis" — Always Faithful. He was later employed by Securcorp International Security Company in Woodbridge, VA until his passing.
Outside of his military service, Jammie was a beloved family member and friend. He cherished time spent with loved ones and was known for his infectious laughter, generosity, and unwavering loyalty. In addition to being a genuine Dallas Cowboys fan he was also an original Run DMC fan.
Jammie leaves to cherish his precious memories his sister, Towanda L. May-Butts, (Wade) of Somerset, NJ, a special cousin Julia Cobb, two maternal aunts, Diane Singletary (Fred) of Effingham, SC who was instrumental in raising him and Levenia Epps of Lake City, SC,, and six additional aunts; uncle Jeffrey Speights (Hazel) of Lake City, SC, and one additional uncle; paternal aunts and uncles; great-aunt Dororthy Fulmore; nieces and nephews, Gregory Solomon, Jerrold May, Zania May, Zaleeah Butts, and Zariah Butts. His memory will also be cherished by his beloved cousins, other relatives, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Millie Ann Epps May, father Eugene Frieson, brother PFC Jerrold Epps, and grandparents Wilbur Epps and Luvenia Fulmore Epps whom helped nurture him into a loving and caring person.
