Mr. Leo M. McKenzie was born on June 2nd, 1956 in Lake City, SC to the late Joe McKenzie and Emma Wilson McKenzie. Reared in the Church and home with a foundation of faith, love, and strong family values. He departed this life on July 9th, 2024. He was proceeded in death by his eldest son: Shon Deleon Brown; brother: Samuel McKenzie; sisters: Emma McKenzie, Ophelia Graham, Florence F. Corbett, and Elouise Baker.
Leo graduated from Lake City High School, Class of 1974. He continued his education at Denmark Technical College earning a degree in Auto Mechanics. After graduation, he was employed by Talon, Inc. as a Maintenance Mechanic. He was later employed and retired from Lake City Water Works. He received several awards from Lake City Water Works in recognition of his dedication and tireless service for his excellent work ethics and his concern for the City.
Leo joined St. John United Methodist Church at an early age. He was a kindhearted, humble, soft-spoken man. He loved God, Life and spending time with family and friends. We believed, his practical knowledge combined with his love of growing his own fruits and vegetables made him one of the better gardeners in the area. Leo’s warm smile, generosity and love of family will forever be a part of his legacy, ensuring he is never forgotten by those who love and knew him.
Left to cherish fond and loving memories are his son: JaMari Joseph McKenzie; two sisters: Gussie V. Dubose of New York, Jannie (Ben) Dodd of Spartanburg, SC; and two brothers: William (Rozetta) McKenzie of Lake City, SC, Willie J. McKenzie of Florence, SC; and nephew: Tommie Lee McCutcheon, who was reared in the home. Also, a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
