Obituary

Robert “Bob” Eugene Covert Sr, 70, left this world peacefully on Sunday Evening, February 15th, 2026, at home, with his fiancé, Regene Steele, by his side in Summerville, SC.

Bob was born January 7th, 1956, to William E. Covert and Shirlie A. Campbell Porter Covert in Danville, Illinois. He attended Danville Schools, including Danville High School and Danville Area Community College. Bob joined the United States Navy in 1973, and served his country for four-years during the Vietnam Conflict, being released with an honorable discharge.

Bob was such a creative artist and musician. He painted scenery on canvas, made customers happy with his tattoo art ability and found his niche in being a drummer. He was a member of many bands since 1970’s, such as Ruby Slick, Big Wheel and the Hubcaps, Three for the Road, Black Horse, Turn on Lucy and Pluff Mudd to name a few. Playing the drums gave him so much joy!

Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR, football and riding his Harley Davidson on a warm breezy day.

Bob is survived by sons Robert “Bob” Covert Jr., John Williams, Wayne Sandlin and daughter Danielle Root, fiance Regene Steele, sisters Linda (Mark) Shadday, Sharon (Duane Pollitt) Garoutte, Debra (Terry) Dobson, brother Kelly Bott and sister-in-law Andrea Porter. He leaves behind eight grandchildren, Tanner, Brantley, Kyle, Kane, Eon, Selina, Tony and Mya, Uncle Bob Porter, Aunt Icey Campbell Stevenson, and host of nieces and nephews and cousins.

During his life, grandparents Clydia and Joe Porter, mother Shirlie Caldwell, Uncle Jack Porter, brothers William “Bill” Porter and George Woods all preceded him in death.

George Benefiel, Eddie Hinote and the late Salvadore “Sal” Hutchins added three more brothers to his family.

A very special thank you to Bob’s caregivers, Regene Steele, Kasja Reitsma, Marcus Grooms and Latricia A. Miles.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The American Lung Association or a charity of their choice, in Honor of Bob’s Memory.
